This is the first in a series of three walks about Native American history, sponsored by Harwich Conservation Trust. They will be led by 12th-generation Cape Codder Todd Kelley and native Wampanoag/Nipmuc Marcus Hendricks. Explore the history of Cape Cod from the First People and early European settles to the nature of Cape Cod today. The series follows a progressive story line about human settlement near freshwater sources and coastal water embayments and will take place at locations in the towns of Harwich, Brewster, and Yarmouth. The first walk focuses on the early natural history of Cape Cod through 6,000 years of First People settlement along the Herring River valley. Follow the water of this ancient corridor and you will find the First People. Hear about their early lifeways from 9,000 years ago to the first European encounters up to Verrazano, circa 1524. The series costs $45, whether you join one walk or all three. Advance registration and payment are required — visit www.HarwichConservationTrust.org.
